点评：If you’re thinking about taking a cooking class while visiting Costa Rica, this is the one!
We visited La Casa del Alto as a family of four with two kids (ages 7 and 9) and the experience couldn’t have been more interactive and engaging for children. They were smiling from beginning to end—and they’re still talking about it! Truly for all of us, this was so much more than a cooking class. It was a true treasure of an experience and an unforgettable glimpse into authentic Costa Rican culture and family.
We hiked to La Casa del Alto with Maciel and her sweet dog, Lucy, through her family’s working coffee farm overlooking beautiful Atenas. Along the way, we learned about coffee cultivation and were even taught how to process fresh sugarcane upon arriving by (Uncle) Saul.
Maciel welcomed us into Mrs. Cecilia’s farmhouse, where we immediately felt like part of the family. She shared stories about her family’s history while showing us the treasured family photos hanging on the walls, giving us an even deeper appreciation for the generations who have called this special place home. Together with Mrs. Cecilia—whom we affectionately called Abuela—we made fresh tortillas by hand before enjoying one of the most delicious homemade Costa Rican meals we’ve had, complete with fresh lemonade. After dinner, we lingered over rich Costa Rican coffee, sharing stories and laughter while soaking in the peaceful countryside.
The experience didn’t end there. We fed the cows, helped bring in the chickens, and watched our kids play on the tree swing. On our hike back, Maciel showed us her cousins’ beautiful hillside gardens and introduced us to their adorable new baby piglets.
This was so much more than a cooking class or farm tour—it was an opportunity to spend time with one of the kindest, most welcoming families we’ve ever met and to experience what Costa Rican Pura Vida is truly all about.
I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. It left a lasting impression on our family and our hearts, and we will absolutely be back to visit. Thank you, La Casa del Alto, for memories we’ll cherish forever. 💞🇨🇷
