点评:I am not sure when this first came into my sphere to know of it's existence... whether it was the road sign... which I feel was it. I drove past this on my way home and saw the sign, but didn't pay a lot of attention. I visited the Sale Visitor Centre and they recommended it- explaining it's only open for a few months of the year.
Anyway, however it peaked my interest... I was curious enough to arrange a trip out there. I called a friend and arranged to catch up one Saturday morning. Which turned into close to lunchtime by the time we got there. We ordered ice-cream- he tried the strawberry ( which is a bit of a signature dish for them) and I had the mixed berry- both in waffle cones. We also ordered coffee.
First impressions are... you are on a farm. You drive into the area and there is a significant area for cars to park. As you look around you, there are farms in every direction. With any outside area there is the issue of flies. I did wave a few away but as one would in an outdoor area. There is seating both shaded and unshaded.
Value is what one would expect... it's fresh and it's from this farm. I ran into someone I knew there and he could not believe you had to pay $3 to pick your own fruit and then it was weighed and you purchased it. He clearly did not consider that many people would try those strawberries whilst they were picking them...so it's a clever cover charge.
The ice-creams were exquisite - neither of us had any complaints. We both enjoyed the ice-creams immensely... they were quite lush. And huge... so you need to focus on eating, not conversing. The waffle cone was tasty and that fresh fruit in the ice-cream was something special. We both had coffees and were pleasantly surprised that they were so good- in fact, we would return for the coffee again.
So whilst ice-cream may not be the healthiest choice for lunch... I found it very worthwhile. The only issue is that they need to address the fly issue for people eating... which means back to the drawing board to enclose eating areas in nets.
