点评：We were meant to visit the light trail with our family but the event was sadly cancelled due to the storm that weekend. Our refund was processed quickly & we decided to rebook for ourselves, since we couldn’t all get together again.
First we visited the house for Christmas at the Mansion’. The rooms looked beautiful with many Christmas trees decorated in different ways. There seemed to be less of the house open than on a ‘normal’ visit and we were disappointed that the kitchen wasn’t open with a suitably festive food display. We got round in quite a short time. The usual large tree outside was also absent this year, instead there was a sleigh & reindeer display as a photo-op.
A little later we set off on the light trail & there was quite a bit different to last year. I like how it starts in different places each time - this year near the orangery. The large scale projections on the house were great as were the multicoloured sticks that changed patterns & colours to a vibrant rock track. Our favourite area was what I can only describe as an enchanting flower garden made up 100’s if not 1000’s of lights that glowed & changed colour subtly to the strains of Silent Night. The usual light tunnel was joined by a coupe of others - a triangular neon one & one with string of bauble like lights dangling down that you walked through.
The car park in the last couple of years has improved immensely from the once uneven muddy field. Now it is well lit with a good surface for both people & vehicles. Belton light trail isn’t cheap by any means & other than free parking there are no concessions for National Trust members. That said it’s a lovely event & has become a new family tradition for us. Sadly the weather was against us earlier in the month but it was a great way to spend time on Boxing Day evening.
