点评：The Old Market House in Galena, Illinois, now serves as the Galena Welcome Center for tourists and visitors who have made the historic community one of the most popular go-to destinations in the state. Located at 123 North Commerce Street, the brick structure in the Greek Revival architectural style was built in 1845 to serve as a city hall and enclosed public farmers' market. A rapid increase in Galena's population in the 1830s and 1840s due to the widespread production of lead ore in the region caused a sharp increase in the demand for foodstuffs. The Old Market House continued to serve the people of Galena until about 1910 when citizens began to cater to local grocery stores and the stalls went out of business. It was extensively rebuilt and restored in 1954 and refitted to serve as the city's information desk for visitors and a museum of local history. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
