Salaam Cave Aquarium的点评
点评：I feel so guilty for spending my money here - you may as well go to a zoo or aquarium where they do genuinely contribute to conservation.
I was expecting a natural cave with links to the sea. It is in fact an inland basin with no links to the sea, so the turtles have to be brought in. I’m told they are released every 2-3 months but it’s hard to believe that the turtles have become that accustomed to humans in such a short time.
It’s a tourist vanity hotspot with everyone posing to get a picture with the turtles and is immensely overcrowded; 40+ people in there at once. People are screaming as the turtles come near them, pushing them away, splashing around and running away - I can’t imagine the turtles are not stressed.
If they are released to the wild after 3 months I can’t imagine this has a great impact on their ability to hunt for themselves.
It was amazing to witness a turtle close up but I had a knot in my stomach the whole time and we left after 15 minutes having had enough.
I’m not saying this should be closed down as there is a place for it but it needs to be properly managed as a conservation project if this is what they are saying it is. It is clear this is about making as much money as quickly as possible with little control over the tourist who don’t respect the rules.
