点评:Just want to put this out there for anyone who is all excited over the Beatles Shea Stadium Concert "exhibit".
After driving 3 hours to see it with my Beatles fan 13 yr old granddaughter, we discovered that it's a 1 panel, 2 sided display of photos. That's it. The panel sits in the lobby, just in front of the welcome desk. When we first saw it, we thought it was a teaser, then, looking around, it dawned on us that this, indeed, was the extent of the "exhibit".
Glancing over at the welcome desk attendant, I could tell he was bracing himself for another upset patron. The poor guy looked sick, and approached us before we could say anything to him. He apologized profusely, saying that he hoped we hadn't traveled far expressly for the Beatles exhibit. I'm not the kind of person who would have launched on him anyway, but even if I had been, his expression told me that others certainly had. He mentioned that people had come from Boston, CT and southern PA, expecting much more than a simple lobby panel. Our group was sympathetic to this front line target. He could not have been nicer and suggested some other areas of the museum that we might enjoy.
That said, we spent about 2 hours walking through other displays and exhibits that were very interesting. The World Trade Center/9-11 exhibit was sobering and thoughtfully put together. Various dinosaur and whale skeletons as well as explanations of life thousands of centuries gave a new insight to the state. We rode the 4th floor carousel, although the style and design were underwhelming. The one at Carousel Center (now Destiny USA) in Syracuse is far superior. It's too bad that unit could not be the one to exemplify the wonderful crafsmanship of the Herschell Carrousel factory. Rides are free.
The admission is free, so it's worth a stop if you're enjoying the Capital region and the Empire State Plaza. They of course take donations but given the gas I put in my tank to get there, I felt that was enough of a donation.
