点评:Traveling with Trans Niugini Tours is a mixed bag. As others have reported the lodges where they put you up are pretty basic, but there’s not a lot of tourist infrastructure in PNG. So maybe this is the best you can get. Transport (the big boat on the Sepik River, vehicles for hauling guests and luggage up long, uphill paths to one of the lodges, electricity) experienced numerous breakdowns. You shouldn’t expect perfection in this remote part of the world. The biggest annoyance is an overall lack of professionalism and communication.
They undertook to ship some carved wooden masks that I purchased along the way, but I never received them even though I paid TNT hundreds of US dollars for the shipping. It turns out they tried to ship via the local Post PNG rather than a recognized international carrier. Repeated inquiries were rarely answered, and when they eventually answered I got an ever-changing series of stories about the source of the problem. Don’t bother making any purchases in the villages, unless you’re prepared to haul them home yourself.
The Mt. Hagen show was the highlight of the trip, and TNT did a good job of keeping our group safe in a dangerous neighborhood.
I thought the guides were not very helpful or informative. When they spoke in English, it frequently was impossible to understand what they were saying.
Based on comments from friends who have traveled in PNG with other tour companies, I’m not sure that any of the other companies are any better.
