点评:My father had a yellow Oldsmobile, and I had learned to drive on it, so, I have fond memories of this car. We lived in New York, and I, always, thought that all cars were made in Detroit. During this trip to Lansing, I found out that Oldsmobiles were made in Lansing, and that they had a Museum here. We were very interested in visiting it, if we found the time, as this trip was dedicated to something else.
Our friend's son volunteered to drive us there on a Sunday afternoon. He stayed in his car in the parking lot, and did some work on his computer, while we were inside, enjoying the cars and the history. We were there for just over an hour, as the Museum is not all that large, and the cars do take up lots of space. If one wants to read every placard, you could easily, spend 3 hours there.
This Museum is dedicated to Ransom Eli Olds, a Lansing inventor, and one of Lansing’s most notable automotive leaders. It was he, who created the principle of the assembly line in the automobile industry.
There is an extensive collection of automobiles, engines, and other automotive materials significant to the transportation history of the region, and we enjoyed looking at everything. There is a bright red Oldsmobile 88 that you can sit in, and that was fun. Amazing how long those cars were, and most of them were 2-door.
There is a small gift shop with books about automobiles, caps, t-shirts, and other souvenirs. I could not resist, and bought myself a green t-shirt with the logo of the Museum on it.
