点评:The Canadian Museum of Nature is a short bus ride from Downtown Ottawa. As you approach the entrance, you can see Woolly Mammoths on the streets of Ottawa! (OK, they are sculptures created by museum artists in the 1980s.)
I went to the top floor first to see the Canada Goose Arctic Gallery. An anamorphosis is an optical illusion that appears as a cohesive work of art when seen from a particular location, but becomes fragmented when seen from different viewpoints. "Ilurqusivut" (Our Ways), 2017, by Nancy Saunders communicates a contemporary Inuit perspective on the Arctic. Many Arctic animals were on display. One room was devoted to the Inuktitut, who live on islands in Hudson Bay.
On the other side of the top floor was a "Wild Colour" temporary exhibit. It had sections devoted to various colours in nature. You can see the blue section in my photo. The Canadian Museum of Nature pride flag, 2023, illustrates the amazing diversity of colours in nature, as well as being inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community.
Another temporary exhibit was "Life onto Land: the Devonian". The Devonian Period lasted from 420 to 359 million years ago and was known as "The Age of Fishes". Be amazed at the skull of Dunkleosteus, a carnivorous, armoured jawed fish from the late Devonian Period. During the Devonian, plants spread onto the land and fish were on their way to becoming tetrapods (animals with four limbs). A fossil that represented the transition was found in Nunavut and was given the Inuit name "Tiktaalik".
I spent several hours enjoying the many exhibits.
