Probably better when it's not pouring rain!
Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park的点评
点评： We stopped here on our way from Pipestem to Blackwater Falls. The parking lot for Droop Mountain is big enough for a small rv.
I was under the impression the office was open. Apparently not during the week. I was unable to get a map.
Another problem was it was raining, which is no one's fault.
It just diminished the experience.
This is West Virginia's first state park. There's a museum that was closed as well. Possibly open on the weekends. There are a lot of information boards scattered around that helped out.
There's bathrooms.
There's trailheads to a couple of trails.
By walking around the office you can can see a group of Confederate graves.
I walked by the museum & cannon.
The Overlook Trail starts by the old oak stump, which has an interesting story. The trail is a .5mile loop trail to see civil war trenches, a scenic overlook & a bear cave. This trail is rated moderate - has some ups & downs & is rocky. Rather muddy when it rains. 🙄. Hard to see a scenic view also. This still would be a good family trail.
I really wanted to also take the cranberry bog trail which is a .5 mile there & back easy trail. Unfortunately it started raining harder.
We decided to drive to the picnic area & check out the tower. This was a mistake.
The road is narrow & windy. We were pulling a 16 foot trailer! We had no idea it was like this. This was supposed to be a 2 way road!!! By the time we got to the end we just left. There's another entrance off the highway & and it was easy to get back on. It was raining too hard anyway for a scenic view.
