点评：This historical self-tour gives a good overview of the history of the area so your visit can go deeper than just the quaint buildings and gift shops. The $10 admission included admission to three locations in three of the seven villages that make up the Amana Colonies.
In Amana, we spent about an hour in the Amana Heritage Museum and its attached Wash House & Woodshed building and gift shop. It had a short film and a lot of exhibits about the religious sect that came from Germany and established the Amana colonies and the way they lived their daily lives.
In Middle Amana, we spent about half an hour in the Communal Kitchen and the Cooper Shop across the road from it. The people of the religious group used to have multiple communal kitchens scattered throughout the villages where multiple families would eat together, and the Communal Kitchen museum focuses on this aspect of their lives.
In Homestead, we spent about 20 minutes at the Amana Community Church learning about the religious practices of the community.
Each of the three locations had at least one docent to get you oriented.
