点评:We parked in the lot next to the museum thinking that the museum would validate. They don’t. In fact, they don’t have an agreement with any lot in the area, so the only option is to park on the street or pay $5 per half hour ($28) for the day. In hindsight, my husband should have left the car where it was because we saw the entire museum in under an hour, it’s that small.
It is $20 a person unless you are a resident. Then it is “Pay what you want” because of the hurricane (that will change soon).
The girl at the front desk was more concerned about telling us how to get to the cafe than giving us information on the exhibits.
The exhibit I wanted to see was “Ashville Strong”. I thought it would feature photographs of the flood, the recovery, damaged works and artwork inspired by the devastation. But it seemed to just be random work made by Asheville artists. Which was very disappointing.
The exhibition titled “Intersections in America art” was even worse. In fact, I would say it was the worst curated exhibition I have ever seen. I got the impression that they went through their storage facilities and picked random works and then wrote the prospectus to try to tie the works together. It didn’t because the pieces were every style, period and medium. They weren’t even displayed or arranged well. There was a Joseph Albers in a dark corner!
We decided to check out the cafe. The view was amazing and there was plenty of outside dining overlooking the roof top sculpture garden but the only Vegan option was a $13 humus plate.
I recommend going to the Folk Art Center and the Rived Arts District instead, because both are fabulous, free and have parking.
