An Excellent Tour of a Very Impressive House in an Amazing Location

My husband and I visited the Isham-Terry House in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday, June 18th, 2023, taking the 12:00 PM guided house tour and enjoyed our visit very much. It was an excellent tour of an impressive house in an amazing location,
The guided house tour was a nice walk back through time and was quite interesting. It was a great way to learn about the intriguing lives of the family members who lived in the house, the time period that they lived there and the house architecture, both inside and outside. Our tour guides Lynn and Jan were both very friendly, polite, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and informative, and provided us with great details about the house and the people that lived there. It was quite interesting to see how much property the families who lived in the house owned so close to I-84. It was also quite amazing that they were able to keep this beautiful property for so long, and that the property still remains completely intact like a time-capsule from a different time period.
We especially liked the beautiful architecture displayed throughout the house as well as the very exquisite and impressive furniture and furnishings, including learning about the specific details about these items. The Lincrusta wall covering in the library/study was particularly interesting.
The furniture and furnishings, including some very nice paintings, were authentic and original to the house and definitely well-preserved and worth seeing, being of high quality. The house is well kept-up and its surrounding property is nicely maintained.
The guided house tour took about 1 hour. It was great that we were able to take pictures inside the house, making for a lot of nice memories.
We were able to park in the Hartford Safety Complex parking lot on the side of the house, which was quite convenient to the house. There was plenty of spaces available when we arrived but the lot was quite full when we were leaving the property.
We recommend a visit to this house, especially if you like historic places. We hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as we did. We only wish that it could be open more often for regularly scheduled tours. However, I believe the house is also open for tours by appointment.
This interesting historic landmark is part of Connecticut Landmarks, a group of historic homes located throughout Connecticut. We found out about these homes because they recently were added to the list of NARM Museums in Connecticut, which is quite exciting! We look forward to going to more of the historic homes that are part of Connecticut Landmarks.
