What a splendour!

点评：We have arrived at the entrance of the Riga Dome just a few minutes before closing, but due to the courtesy of the friendly staff, we were let in to marvel at the splendour of this Church, the Cathedral Church of Saint Mary, the Lutheran Cathedral of Riga!
It was built in 1211, and it is thought to be the largest church in the Baltic states.
During the Reformation, in 1524, the Church was damaged because the iconoclasts destroyed and vandalised the altar and the icons. During the centuries, there were significant reconstructions and modifications mainly because of frequent fires.
From 1939 to 1989, it was a concert hall because the religious services were banned by the Soviet Government.
We admired the finely carved pulpit, the historical objects on display in the aisles, but the most marvellous for us was the view of the organ from the point in front of the altar! We also had a glimpse of the cloister.
