点评：Gloucester Cathedral has existed since the late 1000s when it was built during the early period of Normal rule in England. Some of its most notable features are the Quire's spectacular vaulted ceiling, the beautiful Great East Window, which was the largest window in the world when it was installed in the 1300s, and the magnificent cloisters.
Several famous figures have been buried in Gloucester cathedral, including King Edward II, whose canopied shrine is the most impressive monument on this site, Robert, Curthose, the eldest son of William the Conqueror, and Dorothea Beale, an educational reformer who founded St Hilda's College in the University of Oxford.
The cathedral has also been used in multiple films and TV series, including several Harry Potter films, Wolf Hall, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. It is also used for the degree ceremonies for the University of Gloucester and the University of the West of England.
I would say that the cathedral is easily the most interesting attraction in Gloucester, so I recommend you set aside a couple of hours to explore it. Entry is free, though you are encouraged to make a small donation and if you want to go up the tower and enjoy magnificent views of Gloucester and the surrounding countryside, you'll have to pay £12 per adult. However, you'll have to book in advance and you should note that this guided tour is not suitable for those with mobility issue as there are a total of 269 steps to the top of the tower. We didn't do the guided tower tour, so I can't comment on whether it's worth it.
