点评:We came on a Thursday and I can tell that it’s best to go on the weekend. Check out their events calendar to come when they have an event. I’m fairly certain that if I had done that I would have given it five stars. This historical museum was well organized and maintained. The best part is the “historical village” section, which is full of structures and pieces from the early European settlers. The volunteers were very informative and eager to explain the structures and artifacts.
Some of the newer buildings have interesting collections that show the progression of technologies throughout time, such as telephones, motor boats, fashion, etc. These sections were not as interesting to me as the village, but they were well done. There were informative placards and scenes to give context to the collections.
I have been to several similar museums in Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin when my child and I spent three summers exploring early European settler sites in the Midwest. This site is one of the best because it is well organized and thoughtful. Some of the other sites kind of seemed like collections of random stuff, but this site definitely organized their collections in a pleasing and informative way.
The only thing I feel that this site is missing is that it barely touches on the Native American inhabitants of the land prior to European settlement.
