点评:I really enjoyed my visit to Gunston Hall. The museum is small but is a good scene setter for the time George Mason lived in. The house is well worth seeing. The carved woodwork on its own is amazing and the house is filled with period furnishings, some of which originally belonged to the Mason family. There are also some outbuildings, a garden, a modern picnic area, and a trail to the river. The trail is a bit overgrown and instead of being a loop seems to end at the river, but there was a wonderful view of the water and a nice breeze blowing off the water on a hot July day. The tour guide, Erin, was terrific. In addition to telling us about the house, grounds, and history, she also asked what we were specifically interested in so that she could add those topics as she went along. Fantastic job. She was very knowledgeable about the time period, the house, and the items in it. I was surprised to learn she had only been on the job for three months. 5 Stars!
