Fine collection of artifacts & history stories related to mining throughout US, with emphasis on Colorado's mining
National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum的点评
点评:The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum contains a fine collection of artifacts & history stories related to mining throughout US, with an emphasis on Colorado's mining. Located in a restored former Leadville school building, the three floors cover many different types of mining (gold, silver, copper, uranium; even how lunar minerals were examined by Apollo voyages). The technologies used in mining are covered in some detail; mostly drawn from Colorado's mines in the last ~200 years.
The Museum also covers how all these extracted minerals affected Colonial and later US history. The use of gold and later silver as currency affected how the American economy would expand, and how scarcity affected national & local economies. Discoveries of new lucrative deposits also affected how immigration and population expansion occurred (think "Gold Rushes").
If you're interested in technology evolution or American history, you'll find this Museum interesting. The Museum had a good deal of free parking surrounding it.
