点评:There are so many things to see in Istanbul, it is hard to pick a favorite. However, if I were pushed, this would be right up there. It is an amazing experience to descend to this marvel of Roman engineering. The city has also done a marvellous job of lighting this space with changing lighting and it is very atmospheric.
Even though it might get crowded, it is a very large space and plenty of room to move around so it doesn't feel overly busy. It is extremely photogenic and, of course, we all get similar shots as you can see here on TA. It pays to go with a guide who can tell you some of the history and why this place exists as well as ensuring you don't miss the highlights such as the Medusa heads (upside down and sideways to avoid looking into the eyes and being turned to stone as per the legend).
I love places like this and up to an hour wandering around the Cistern is time very well spent. There is some artwork there as well and it is very tastefully done and adds to the experience. It is truly amazing that such a structure exists and they keep it with a few inches of water at the bottom and one walks on walkways above it. Hard to imagine this place beging so well designed and beautiful and yet completely full of water in its heydey. Truly a great visit - I loved it
