Westray/Papay experience
Westray Island的点评
点评：Westray was a wonderful experience for us as that is one of the places in Orkney where our family came from originally (175 years ago approximately)!
Mary from the Heritage centre was exceptional in helping us to look up census records and other info pertaining to our family name (Hewison).
Also our hosts at the Reid Hall (Braeside Manse …Lin and Adam) were so lovely and welcoming and fed us a beautiful breakfast. !
The room was very comfy and warm.
They also helped us with booking a puffin tour, which was amazing !!! ( run by Westraak tours , who were so knowledgeable and helpful and eager to give us the best puffin experience ever!).
Lin and Adam also helped us book the bus to and from the Papa Westray ferry.
The bus driver was also very kind and assured us that we would make the ferry link back to Kirkwall in time!!!
I hope to return in the next couple of years.
Much thanks to everyone concerned.
We also visited Papay for the day, which was a major emotional experience, as we have family roots leading back to the island . It was an exceptionally sunny day, with hardly any rain, and so our walk around the island was pretty easily managed, and incredibly peaceful!!!
There is no cafe on Papay but the shopkeeper encouraged us to use the attached hostel facilities to make tea/coffee and use their facilities. We left a small donation in the kitchen. The shop closes between 1130 and 330 ( of which I was unaware) but we got there in time to buy cheese and biscuits for lunch, which we ate in the hostel gardens. It was all quite lovely.
Jennifer ( in the hostel) was so helpful and friendly and took us in her car to see the house where family used to live! She gave us lots of useful tips on how to research family roots etc! We were very fortunate to meet her 🙏. We hope to return to Papay soon

帕佩岛上没有咖啡馆，但店主鼓励我们使用旅舍的设施来泡茶/咖啡，并使用他们的便利设施。我们在厨房里留下了一点捐款。商店在11:30到3:30之间关门（我之前并不知道），但我们及时赶到那里，买了奶酪和饼干作为午餐，在旅舍的花园里享用。一切都很美好。
（旅舍的）Jennifer非常乐于助人，也很友好，她开车带我们去看了家人曾经住过的房子！她给了我们很多关于如何研究家族根源等方面的实用建议！我们很幸运能遇到她🙏。我们希望很快能再次回到帕佩岛。
