Definitely Worth a Visit
Rochester Castle的点评
点评：Rochester Castle has been on my to do list for quite some time, so having planned to stay in this part of the country with my family it would have been rude not to pay a visit.
I'm an English Heritage member, so entry was free, but at £9.50 for entry normally, you couldn't complain, worth every penny.
This is an impressive Norman castle, which has been besieged several times. King John himself... Boo Hiss... attacked the castle trying to bring the naughty barons to account. Magna Carta followed I believe, and a siege at Windsor Castle where the barons believed he was... he wasn't. Anyway, the importance of this castle in English history is pretty important.
The castle itself is pretty much a shell, with no roof. I enjoyed exploring each level, and each interconnecting passageway. You eventually reach the top and have some great views of the Medway, and Rochester Cathedral. Look out for the wreck of a Submarine in the Medway, which you can see clearly from the top.
We chose not to use an audio guide, we prefer to explore on our own, reading information boards which usually give you everything you need. My only complaint is there's not enough information on show, not enough pzazz about the castle, but we did visit before the school summer holidays began. It was nice and quiet, which I would imagine will change once the influx of tourists arrive.
There are plenty of car parks in Rochester you can park in all within walking distance, and they are all incredibly cheap, most at £2.90 for two hours. We paid less than £5 for 5 hours parking.
