点评:Rochester Castle from Michelle on Wheels:
Rochester Castle stands tall on a beautiful cliff overlooking the River Medway, its Norman stonework weathered but proud. Built in the 1080s and reinforced by Bishop Gundulf (yes, the same one who helped build the Tower of London), it’s one of the best-preserved keeps in England. It has withstood sieges, rebellions, and centuries of change—but apparently not the concept of a ramp.
The grounds are small and beautiful, and if you stand in the right spot, the view stretches far across the river and rooftops. I couldn’t go up into the castle itself—it's not wheelchair friendly at all—so I didn’t get to see inside or enjoy the panoramic views from the top. Apparently, you can see for miles. But you can't have everything your way and have it accessible to Michelle on wheels.
The rest of the town seemed lovely, full of little shops, cafés, and restaurants bustling with life. Unfortunately, not one of them had a ramp or wheelchair-accessible entrance. So unless there’s some kind of medical miracle and I suddenly find I can walk, I’ll be going hungry. I love the quaintness of the pubs and bars, and I know no one owes disabled people anything—but just because we’re different doesn’t mean we should be excluded from living life like everyone else.
Rochester Castle may be a monument to resilience, but so are we. And maybe one day, the town will reflect that too.
