Sadly disappointing
Newstead Abbey的点评
点评：So sad to see the once beautifully manicured gardens looking neglected, pathways lined with stinging nettles, and overgrown shrubs and hedges. I grew up near to the Abbey and I know how it should look! I was also lucky enough to have my wedding there back in the late 90's. I have only visited a handful of times since, due to living elsewhere. So I was excited to visit and enjoy a day at the beautiful Abbey and gardens. Instead I felt sad, memories of how it was and seeing it now, looking forgotten and neglected. I understand perhaps the costs to employ a good team of gardeners these days (my dad was one of the team back in the 60's and 70's, what on earth would he think if he saw the state of the place he loved) but surely more can be done to bring the Japanese gardens and Walled gardens back to their former glory. I didn't get all the way around due to having my elderly mother with me, which is perhaps just as well as we both just felt so disappointed in the state of what we did see. I will say that the member of staff who loaned me a wheelchair was super friendly, thank you, and to the young man in the tea rooms, I'm sure most people expect CLEAN glasses when they buy the bottles of lemonade and ginger beer!
