点评:I ended up walking just over 10km around Clumber Park on a foggy October morning, and the walled kitchen garden was easily the highlight of the whole day. You pass the lake, the long open stretches, all beautiful, but there’s something about stepping through the gates into that walled garden that just stops you in your tracks!.
The mist was still hanging low when I got there, softening everything. Dahlias still in bloom, pumpkins stacked in corners, and crates of apples that looked freshly picked — small, freckled and smelling properly of autumn. Inside the glasshouse, chillies and seed heads were hanging to dry, and someone had written Ode to Autumn on a blackboard. It made me smile.
If you visit Clumber Park, don’t skip the walled kitchen garden. It’s not grand or showy, but it’s got something that stays with you — peaceful, beautiful, and completely grounding.
