Rufford Abbey Country Park的点评
点评：I have been coming to this beautiful country park, set in the heart of Sherwood Forest/Robin Hood country, for over a decade now.
The Abbey referenced in the country park's name was a 12th Century Cistercian Abbey (Cisterciabs being Catholic Monks who adopted a strict, simple, self-sufficient lifestyle), and the ruins remain to this day. In fact, only recently have these ruins become open to visitors once again, after an extended period of closure for vital maintenance work.
They are not extensive ruins, but they are well worth a visit. You certainly get a feel for the place by doing so.
Elsewhere you have a huge span of nice, green lawn that offers the ideal spot for picnics on spring or summer days, as well as a large lake (with some additional smaller ones) that have a walking path around the perimeter - ideal for leisurely, accessible nature walks.
Speaking of nature walks, there are a few woodland trails you can enjoy here too. Again these are leisurely and, to the best of my knowledge, entirely accessible.
The large lake on the site offers boating in the summer months, and there is an archery range and mini golf course available too.
In addition to all this, there is a large children's play area, complete with swings for all ages, tunnels and slides, a zip wire and a roundabout. This play area is relatively recently refurbished and so things remain in good working order.
You can also dine on the park too - in one of several different places, namely: The Coach House Cafe, Saville's Restaurant, the Courtyard Pizza Van, and the very delicious (if way too expensive) ice cream parlour.
Im lucky enough to have private access to the park and so do not use the car park - however I am reliably informed it is spacious and costs about £7 for the day.
I love this Park and have a strong affinity with it. I hope to keep coming back for many, many more years.
