North Head Lighthouse的点评
点评：This is the extra lighthouse. The Cape Disappointment Lighthouse was built further south. But in a locale that its light could not be seen by ships sailing from the north. A big problem since this area is prone to shipwrecks, like a lot. So they decided to build another lighthouse. And this is it. To get to the lighthouse we pass by the Keepers and Assistant Keepers houses (and the always present gift shop). All the buildings are in wonderful shape with crisp paint and manicured lawns. From the houses is a path down to the lighthouse itself. It’s a narrow affair with banks on either side (now why did they place the houses so far from the lighthouse where it was a trek to take all the supplies (especially kerosene) from the staging area to the lighthouse?!
There at the lighthouse we were met by a very pleasant and genial volunteer. We were able to get on a ‘tour’ of the lighthouse (just the two of us). We climbed the 70 or so steps to the top and were met by another volunteer. He sure liked to talk, telling us about all the facets of Disappointment Point, but a bit less about the lighthouse. He was fun and interesting to listen to.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
