点评:This revamped museum is now one of the nicer museums to ancient Native Americans that I know. The structure went from a 1,700 square-foot building, constructed in the early 1960s, to an 8,500 square-foot modern structure, completed in 2018. Inside are professionally displayed artifacts found at a nearby village site from decades earlier, mainly by the Hampson family.
Pottery, arrowheads, beads, and other ways of life for these people are fully displayed, and explained as best we understand it. There are hands-on things to do, like trying to reconstruct a piece of pottery found in pieces, and you can get a glimpse of how archeological work in general is done. In addition, this museum has things for the blind. A few of the real items will be behind glass, then there will be an exact bronze replica in front to be touched by the blind, and a description of the item in braille.
The museum has a great giftshop as well.
If you have been to Hampson before 2018, things have changed. No longer do you have the small brick structure museum just sitting by itself. Now, the museum frontage is part of the small downtown square. It is designed to look like the rest of the buildings in the square (another story about that not for here). The museum entrance faces south into the town's park. No admission to the museum. The actual site these artifacts came from is closed to the public.
