点评:This is a very annoying set-up: there are actually 3 museums in this subterranean complex, but you _have_ to buy admission to all 3. The best is the Gold Museum, of course, but why pay for 3 when only 1 is really worth seeing? The prices are not cheap either--8,000 colones per person when I visited. That is more than the best archaeological museums of Mexico.
As for the gold museum, there is a lot of space compared to the exhibits. Yes, there are cases of gold artefacts and a lot of them. And some of the pieces are impressive in their details. The storyboards give you a good bit of explanation of the different groups of settlers through to colonialization. If the admission were 1/2 the price, I would easily recommend this as a must-see in Costa Rica.
The other two museums are more niche. One is all about the role of women in Costa Rica, both in pre-Colombian and in modern times. The third museum is the numismatic musuem. It has a very thorough coverage of money used in Costa Rica, including tokens that plantations used to pay people when hard currency was in short supply. It's an excellent museum if you are a coin collector, but others will find it boring.
