点评:Having read many of the recent reviews of the travertine terraces at Hierapolis the night before I was due to visit, I was expecting to be underwhelmed by dry, discoloured terraces. In actuality, the mineral terraces are gleaming white (bring sunglasses for the glare!) with the water of the pools a brilliant blue. You can wade in to a depth of up to about mid-shin. The most pristine travertine pools are cordoned off and inaccessible to visitors. It's hard to know if it's purely man-made diversion of the mineral water or natural drying of the underground springs, but many of the terraces are empty of water and quite dried out. The Antique/Cleopatra pool were previously open to tourists to bathe in natural hot spring water but it is now closed, with no signs of renovations about it and the water looks quite green and stagnant so unlikely to reopen anytime soon. Yes there are a lot of tourists there but they're there for a same reasons you are. Go first thing in the morning to beat the tour buses if you really want to avoid crowds. There is a cafe in Hierapolis with extremely inflated prices, sp plan accordingly and bring your own drinks/snacks if you're sticking to a budget. The rest of the Hierapolis site was quite quiet as most tour groups seem to spend the majority of their time at the terraces. The theatre is quite spectacular and worth walking up to.
