点评:It's ridiculous to hear the lamentations that the Olkhon Island lacks (paved) roads:))) Of course, it does! It's a national park, so any road construction there is stringently regulated—as any hospitality business object (hotels, restaurants/cafés, beaches, etc.).
We explored Baikal for a week in August, and I declare with full confidence that high quality facilities and excellent guides are abundant there—just don't skimp on pleasure!
Still, nothing beats seeing the lake from a boat (this way of travelling is damn popular, so do book your voyage at least half a year in advance—at least!). Another thrill is swimming there in summer that can often be scorching hot. You take a dive from the hot air into the waters that are 15-17 degrees Celsius and get a lovely ice burn! Surfacing and scrambling back onto the boat, you see that you're red all over, so a shot of good old vodka will never let you down. (Please consult with your physician before you head out on this adventure!)
Kidding aside, Baikal is something to see and die. Never hesitate going there, just bear in mind what I wrote in the title of my review.
(Should one try it in winter? Yes, absolutely! Unless you're not afraid of Siberian frosts, of course. In this case a 4x4 will be of great help, instead of a boat. Baikal's ice is thick enough even for a dumper.)
