点评:The Asklepion of Pergamon was a healing centre built in honour of the Greek god of healing Asklepius. Established in the 4th century BC/BCE, it was renowned for its use of various treatments such as hot, cold and mud baths, medicinal herbs, as well as treatments based on sports and music. The physician Galen, widely renowned as one of the greatest medical researchers in antiquity, was born in Pergamon and it was actually at the Asklepion where he developed his medical theories that remained influential until the end of the Middle Ages.
Some of the highlights of the Asklepion are the ancient theatre, which had a capacity of 3500 people, the Sacred Way, the remains of the Temple of Zeus, and the underground passages.
Tickets to this site cost €13, which is not exactly bad value for money, but I don't think you're likely to spend much longer than an hour and a half here unless you're visiting with a guide. If you have to choose whether to go here or to the acropolis, I suggest you visit the acropolis (€15) instead, which for me is the more impressive of the two Pergamon archaeological sites. If you're really interested in history, I think you should explore both sites and you should also visit the Bergama Museum (€3), which contains many interesting artefacts from Pergamon. The Red Basilica is another interesting site nearby worth exploring, but it appears to be closed at the moment.
If you're planning on visiting all of the Pergamon sites, as well as all of the Ephesus sites further down the coast, you should consider getting the €95 Aegean Museum Pass, which will grant you free entry to lots of heritage sites on Turkey's Aegean coast. You would have to visit quite a few places to save money, but if you've got at least a few days, I think it's doable to explore Pergamon, Ephesus and at least a few other places if you're travelling by car.
