点评：About 5.5 km from Montbard is the Abbaye de Fontenay which is one of the oldest Cistercian abbeys, dating from 1118. It consists of a church (which is very impressive), cloister, monks areas and, interestingly, a forge which are all original buildings. In this valley it shows the self-sufficiency valued by the Cistercians. There are some buildings which are not accessible.
The gardens are quite pretty and consist of a number of areas. There is a raised area, a lake (or pool) lawn area and a more formal section. You can try to recreate the photo of the abbey church reflecting in the pool or relax in the shade.
Inside the entrance building there are displays of artifacts and upstairs is a video about the abbey. The tourist shop is quite extensive. Toilets are outside the entrance. The only food or drinks onsite is from a vending machine also outside the entrance. You are able to get a pass out. Tickets from here can give discounts at other sites and vice versa. Four of us hired a taxi from Montbard and back for this visit.
