Parte de la historia de Lima, preserva sus claustros decorados con azulejos sevillanos pintados a mano y su impresionante biblioteca con más de 25,000 volúmenes, incluyendo obras antiguas e incunables. Durante la época colonial, el convento fue utilizado como cárcel y tribunal de la Inquisición, y fue el lugar donde se veló el cuerpo del conquistador español Francisco Pizarro después de su asesinato en 1541. De visita obligada, la torre o campanario* con sus nueve campanas, siendo este el mas alto de Lima.
