点评:When we were told that we were visiting an observatory I thought that would be higher in the mountains. In fact, it is in the middle of Jaipur very near the City Palace (so really easy to visit) and the best description would be a collection of sundials - but they are so impressive!
The main attractions are two sundials (the Lagha Samrat Yanntra is the smaller with 20 seconds difference and the Vrihat Samrat Yatra is the larger one with 2 seconds difference) where, if the sun is shining, you can see the line that shows the time (but it does have to be corrected from Jaipur to India time).
There are a series of twelve zodiac sundials where we posed for our star signs and most amazing are the Kapali Yantra and the Jai Prakash Yantra which are hemispherical constructions that find co-ordinates of celestial bodies. The Jai Prakash Yantra was duplicated from the Kapili Yantra to allow astronomers to walk through it to take measurements.
I thought this was a very unique site.
