Expensive entry fee and NO SERVICE

点评：They collect cash but don't provide any service. We paid 9750VT per person for the entry fee and "guide" for a sunrise tour. That is about $150 (NZ or Aus $ per person.) We also paid a separate fee to our driver who took us up the mountain. Booked the sunrise tour in advance and confirmed the day before that we should be at the entrance at 4am. No sign of the guide at 4am. We waited around, looked for the guide, our driver hooted. No guide anywhere to be found. Our driver took us up the mountain - he has lived with the mountain all his live and has good local knowledge. He told us that the "guides" are not much good even if they are there so we didn't miss anything without a guide. He said they are not even local people and they have little or no knowledge about the volcano. The road is terrible - getting up the mountain relies on your driver having good 4x4 driving skill.
For NZ$150 per person, I would expect them to do some road maintenance, provide a guide at the arranged time, provide transport up the mountain, give some information and be knowledgeable about the volcano to answer questions. None of those were available.
