点评:This Fort is not a regular fort (even inclined to say Tripadvisor is erroneously using the picture of Fort Oranje for this item), but more of a small bulwark. As rightfully stated by other posts in this thread, it is not for people not being a history buff.
If you are, this spot signifies a lot. Apart from being named after an influential family in the region, it was the border post of affluent Statia to its British competitors (that would in the end burn the place down); you can see cars driving on St. Kitts from here.
The fact that it is still there, shows how serious the Dutch took their defense of this small island, and its importance in turn - later leading to the "Salute" that recognized the United States for the first time (that was however Fort Oranje). Given the fact that Statia markets itself as "Historic Gem", a must for the visitor type it should attract.
As occurs on many Statia visits, there is nothing around here except for history - so bring water or picknick if needed.
