点评:Situated on Kadri Hill in Mangalore, this Shiva Temple dates back to the 11th century, though it's obviously been expanded and renovated over the centuries. It's a huge complex now, with many shrines to various deities scattered across the space. You take off footwear outside the temple (there are designated racks where you can deposit them for safekeeping for Rs 2 per pair). Flowers, coconuts etc can be bought from the nearby shops for offering inside the temples.
The large shrine in the middle of the large courtyard is the main one, dedicated to Shiva (as Kadri Manjunath). There are other shrines - we went to a Ganesha one, and another uphill, dedicated to Hanuman. Very little sign remains of whatever ancient temple there was here; stone pillars have been painted brightly, and most buildings look fairly new.
Basically, a place for the devout, not for someone looking for a slice of history or interesting temple architecture.
