点评:Original name of this place was Piazza Vittorio as it was built to welcoming Victor Amadeus III of Turin, King of Sardinia in 18th century. It was the time when Nice was part of Italy. I read that it's the second more important urban square in the city after Place Massena. Through the square is running tram and there is also very good bicycle path.
The buildings are amazing - when you look carefully you can see that the decoration around the windows is painted and only shutters are real. I found that this is rare example in Europe of use illusionist painting technique. In the centre is standing statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi who was born in Nice. Around the whole square are cafes and restaurants and shops and lots of people enjoying drink or meal on outside seating areas. It's really very buzzing lively place.
