For example, in the treasury of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, I found an unlabeled box made in Iraq around 1000 A.D. which had a seriously impressive combination lock, apparently one of the first that the world had ever seen. Unlabeled! Sitting in a basement!
In the treasury of this cathedral I found several absolutely beautiful works by a 19th-century Lyon goldsmith, Calliat et fils. Just a moment ago I discovered that there is a museum in Lyon which contains more than 1,000 working drawings by this goldsmith. That museum has just been added to the bucket list.
