点评:After several days of the intense urban jungle that is Singapore, I needed some space and peace. This was just the ticket. Very few people, other than a couple of school groups who were learning about the ecology of the area.
You need to take the MRT then change to a bus. It's a great way to see some of the parts of Singapore that no one talks about. The bus to the wetlands runs through the industrial area. There's no glitz and glamour here. It's grubby, gritty and there's plenty of litter on the sides of the road.
This is a tiny remnant of Singapores mangrove ecosystems which makes it even more precious. If you can, go in the early morning or evening and at low tide This will increase your chances of encountering wildlife. We saw plenty of birds, squirrels and water monitors. The interp center at the start of the walk is great, but it would have been nice to have more material available on the pathways. I know Australian mangrove ecosystems pretty well, but there's loads of species here that I know little about and it would have been nice to have some material along the way to be more informed.
Be prepared. There's only a couple of vending machines for snacks/drinks. The forest cuts all breeze and the humidity can be as high as 95%. Bring plenty of water and food if you'll need it.
The distance from the city and the lack of facilities will deter a lot of people. I hope that never changes. If you're in Singapore to go shopping and watch light shows, you might want to give it a miss. But if you enjoy getting out and about in nature and the Merlion leaves you asking "Why?", then this is a highlight.
