点评:This museum is well laid out, colourful and attractive. Essentially focusing on Belgian classics (the Smurfs, Tintin), but also some lesser known cartoons and touching on Marvel and DC. The bulk of the museum consists of high quality scale models of characters from the various cartoons and this makes it very attractive to view.
There are also really interesting sections on storyboarding, animation, editing and production, which again are illustrated with real examples and equipment.
Some exhibits weren’t captioned in English (unusual in Brussels), but this didn’t detract too much.
The gift shop seemed to cover only the featured characters and not the museum itself. I think that’s a real lost opportunity. But again it’s well laid out with plenty to interest the Belgian comic/cartoon fan.
Accessibility is an issue, with the escalator down to the museum not working. Apparently it hasn’t worked for 2 years - that’s not something I would be shouting about (see picture!)
Note that leaflets you pick up around the city state the museum closes 2 days a week. Whilst this is generally the case, it opens 7 days a week during the school holidays.
The entry fee is a little high compared to other Brussels museums (€14.90 for an adult), but we thought it was just about worth it.
All in all an excellent museum with plenty to interest all ages. Highly recommended.
