点评:After reading other reviews, I arrived shortly after 10am to try to catch the monkeys. In the end, I saw loads about 12:45pm so I think it’s really just your luck in being in the right place at the right time.
The whole park is great. You can get a map to take round with you, which I’d recommend, and a brief intro from the reception staff. The walk round is approx 2 km, with the trail clearly marked out. Be aware that there are hills, large tree roots, and rocks to navigate so plan your footwear accordingly. Unfortunately not suitable for those with mobility issues.
There are information plaques dotted about giving information about the plants, trees, animals and Mayan tradition. It’s informative but not overwhelming if all you really want to do is wander about.
I’ll echo what others have said: take strong mosquito repellant as they are everywhere. I doused myself before I entered the park and escaped with no mosquito bites so it’s fine if you’re prepared.
I saw capybaras, an iguana, butterflies, birds and monkeys. If, like me, the monkeys are what you most want to see, my tips for spotting them are:
- if you see any human staring up at a tree and smiling, there’s probably a monkey there
- otherwise, listen for rustling in the tops of trees and look out for falling berries or fruit shells - I found this meant monkeys were up there and eating - dropping some fruit as they went.
Finally, the entry cost is very reasonable. The easiest way to get there is to drive but I got an Uber in each direction for a reasonably fee and waited no more than 5 minutes for a ride back to Cancun so you’re unlucky to be stranded without your own car.
