点评:This was the starting point of our tour before we entered the DMZ. There is a tourist information centre, amusement park and many statues and memorials for the Korean War and Unification efforts. Sights to be seen here include the Peace Train, Bridge of Freedom, Mangbaeddan, Imjingak War Memorial and the Peace Bell. The majority of the park is built up around a train line that used to go into North Korea and the Peace Train (which is riddled with bullets from the Korean War) is planned to be one of the first things that goes into North Korea if and when the two countries reunify. There was an interesting shop here that sold North Korean currency and postage stamps.
This is a peaceful area and the tourist information centre is a great spot to use the toilet because it is a decent bus ride from Seoul to get here and it is still about 30 minutes from the next stop. We spent about 40 minutes here during our tour of the DMZ area and you can drive here in your own private car. Beyond this point you need to be part of a tour and if you are American you may need to surrender your passport to the tour company and you will be given a permission slip to enter the DMZ. We were able to keep our passport but noticed a few Americans on our tour had to go through this process.
It is highly recommended to book a tour that goes to through the DMZ as that is the only way to access the region and it was one of the most interesting activities during our visit to South Korea.
