Really worthwhile place to visit with some very unique history. One obelisk from here is now at a stately home in Dorset

点评：This is a superb location to visit if you happen to be in Aswan. It is also an easy day trip from Luxor.
Once you arrive in the car park you need to buy entrance tickets but you need to be aware that is only part of what you need to negotiate to reach the temple as it is accessed by boat.
Buying the tickets now seems to be done by bank card. They initially refused to accept cash but we eventually persuaded them. If you are using a bank card for relatively small transactions you need to factor in exchange rates and bank charges. The tickets were only about £7 per adult which was good value.
Then you need to negotiate the cost of a boat. Depending who you get determines how long and how energetically you may need to haggle. We actually got a very sensible price of LE1,000 which was about £15. It is possible that we could have haggled lower but we were happy to pay this price.
The journey time was about ten minutes and it was a very pleasant boat ride. The weather was very hot, mid 30Cs, so take water, sunscreen and a hat. Most of the island is without shade.
The history of the temple site is fascinating. Ancient historians came here since it started being built around 380BC. When I was there I also saw what is believed to be the last ever hieroglyphs inscribed around the end of the 4th century. Monuments to both Pharaohs and Ceasars cover the small island. The mix of cultures and beliefs is very evident in the carvings. I have seen a lot of Egyptian temple site and this one is rather special. I would recommend it as a place to visit.
