点评:Visiting the area for the weekend at the tail end of Storm Amy, I was looking for things we could do indoors and saw this marked on the map. Now a care home, the ground floor is kept as it was, for visitors to explore, whilst the remainder of the house and outbuildings are the home. It's not open every day, so check it out first and only open in the afternoon when it is.
The house is packed with paintings, including a Turner. Owned by Manchester University and managed by a Trust, it's staffed by volunteers and isn't expensive. They were very welcoming and friendly, and very informative without being pushy. We spent longer than we expected. The church is in the grounds and you pass it as you walk from the car park. It's worth a visit and has an interesting history. It also has a lovely tea room.
You can't take photos inside the house.
