点评:We did the 5 hour trip to Skomer in mid-July, and were a bit worried we might miss out on seeing puffins. We need not have been concerned.
Check in at the car park and visitors centre was easy, with friendly and enthusiastic staff and volunteers to guide and welcome us. The 15-minute boat ride was great, with interesting commentary along the way. On arrival, there’s the steep steps to navigate but we took our time, and once at the top guides and volunteers explained the various walking tracks and viewpoints. We headed to The Farm, finding a spot of shade (there’s not much) to enjoy some of our snacks, then headed to The Wick where we spent the rest of our time with hundreds of puffins. Just amazing! It was a crowded spot and worth knowing there’s no shade. A couple of volunteers were doing a fantastic job keeping people back behind the rope fence and explaining puffin and island life.
Be sure to leave enough time to get back to the landing point to catch the boat home. Apparently if you miss the last boat staff call a charter boat for you - at your expense!
A bucket-list day, and one I’d love to repeat someday.
