We love Hollingworth Lake. It's a flat and accessible walk of approximately 2.5 miles (about 4 km) that completely encircles the lake, ideal for a leisurely walk, run, or even a bike ride while enjoying the panoramic views. Along the way, you may encounter families, hikers, and nature lovers who come to enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.
In the center of the lake, there's a very cosy café where you can enjoy a coffee, a snack, or try the fabulous variety of ice creams. We especially recommend the fish and chips—delicious, with the option to eat in or take it to the shore. There are also other cafés, ice cream parlours, and restaurants in the area that perfectly complement the visit.
An interesting detail is that the lake is also home to a very active sailing club, where members practice and compete regularly, adding a unique charm to the landscape with their colourful sails gliding across the water. For lovers of historical curiosities, it's worth mentioning that Hollingworth Lake was one of the first reservoirs in Great Britain used for water supply, making it a place of cultural as well as scenic value.
If you decide to drive, keep in mind that rangers patrol the parking lots, so make sure you have a valid ticket. However, parking is free after 8:00 p.m., a useful detail for those planning an evening walk.
