点评:As part of our afternoon Viator tour, we visited the Albert Gilles Copper Art Studio and Museum located a short ride from Old Quebec. When we booked our tour, it seemed odd to include a trip to a copper museum with visits to the Montmorency Falls and the Basilica of Sainte Anne de Beaupre. Our tour guide then explained the connection - the engraved copper doors at the entrance of the Basilica of Sainte Anne de Beaupre were crafted by the late copper artisan Albert Gilles.
We were greeted by one of Monsieur Gilles' daughters. She proudly shared stories of her father, a renowned repoussee artisan who worked with all types of metal including copper, silver and gold. He gained recognition for his religious artwork including a gold chalice that was commissioned by a Pope and donated to the Montreal Archdiocese.
Monsieur Gilles' daughters carry on his tradition. The studio and museum were impressive - a demonstration introduced us to the process of repoussee and we were invited to visit the museum-quality exhibit of his religious panels. The studio's handcrafted jewelry and other items were available for purchase at reasonable prices. We now have a beautiful repousse holiday ornament as a reminder of our trip to Quebec City.
