pro con advice- my visit on the 1954th year after the destruction

* A holy and spiritual place- the site of Jewish religious prayer and devotion
* The #1 tourist spot in Israel
* The actual intact structure is 2000+ years old
* Experience history of almost 4000 years with intact archaeology from 2000+ years ago
* Experience and observe (from a respectful distance) the world's largest (and only) open air synagogue- close-up and personal observation of Jewish prayer rituals including the ancient Bar Mitzvah ritual, the reading of the Scroll of the Law (Torah) and the ritual donning of fringed tasseled prayer shall and the black phylactery boxes
* Open 24/7 and it is quieter at night
CONS
* It can often be crowded and congested and very disorganized
* People asking for charity money- it's constant at different spots and places in the large plaza, but it is benign and not dangerous nor threatening
* A strange combination of intense spirituality in the prayer rituals and those fervent supplicants at the Wall as compared to the often holiday festive atmosphere in the plaza, as tour groups and family and friends meet and socialize, especially post-high school American girls
* Airplane type security inspection for to admission to the broad Western Wall Plaza.
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... again with my two teenagers and Mrs. Place , and this time to participate in the commemoration of the destruction of the Holy Jewish temple by the pagan Roman gladiators 1954 years ago.
It was super-crowded and literally shoulder-to-shoulder in the prayer area. I did not enjoy that, not least of which was because it had been 25 hours of no food nor drink and the full exposure to the summer midday Middle east sun, and we were being bounced and bumped all the time.
so we retreated to the Israel section, which was empty and spiritually quiet
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free.
WOULD I VISIT HERE AGAIN?
Sure- it's one of a kind and incredible
ADVICE
* Be sure to visit this number one tourist attraction of Israel
* Be sure to dress appropriately and modestly
* Be respectful and quiet
* Some kind of head covering for males
* Observe but do not disturb those engaged in their fervent prayer devotions
* It is permitted to reverently approach the Wall and leave a note between the massive stones, which is only a tourist thing: we never did it and never do it
