An Amazing Hatchery, But a Challenging Journey

点评：We visited the Turtle Hatchery in Hikkaduwa during our stay at the Kalutara Royal Palms, and it was an experience of two very distinct halves.
Let's start with the negative, which was entirely related to the journey. We decided to take a tuk tuk from Kalutara, which in hindsight was not a good idea. The distance is much longer than we anticipated, and the ride was hot, noisy, and quite uncomfortable for such a long trip. It took a significant chunk out of our day and was not the pleasant, scenic ride we had imagined. I would not recommend this mode of transport for this particular trip; hiring a private car would be a much better and safer investment for comfort and time.
However, the Turtle Hatchery itself was absolutely amazing and completely worth the hassle of getting there.
The work they are doing is truly inspirational. Seeing the tiny hatchlings and the larger rescued turtles up close was a heartwarming experience. The staff was passionate and knowledgeable, explaining the different turtle species, the threats they face, and the hatchery's conservation efforts. It felt good to know that our entry fee was contributing to a worthy cause. It's a truly educational and memorable visit, especially for families.

If you plan your transportation wisely, you are in for a fantastic and rewarding visit. We left with a little bit of dissatisfaction about the trip but with huge admiration for the hatchery itself.
